They had split up for some reason (i don't remember exactly)
so Percy was doing his underwater exploring thing and Annabeth Hazel and Piper got surrounded by Octavian and some other Roman thugs and so they were outnumbered and Octavian told them to drop their weapons and surrender so Annabeth (being the smarty smart genius she is) tossed her dagger in the water "accidentally" like "oops clumsy me, don't mind me i'm just a ditzy blonde" so Octavian wouldn't be suspicious (he didn't know Percy was in the water) and Percy seeing the dagger knew something was up so he came up saw Octavian and surprise splash attacked the Romans so they all fell in the water and then he was just all cool like "you dropped this" the witty badass he is
